Days before the release of the summer blockbuster movie Barbie, HGTV kicked off its epic life-size renovation of the iconic Mattel toy, Barbie Dreamhouse, in its newest competition series, Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge.
The four-part series wrapped Sunday, August 6, with one of eight teams of HGTV designers being crowned the winner as they each used their style and creativity to transform a Southern California home into a real-life Barbie Dreamhouse.

Each week, teams overhauled areas of the home with an era-specific style from an early 1960s atomic age kitchen, a ‘70s disco vibe for Ken’s Den, a bedroom suite decked out in ‘80s glam, all the way to a Y2K era backyard wonderland.
In week three, Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas from Bargain Block gave the front yard and home exterior a toy-riffic 1990s spin complete with Clopay pink louver-style garage doors, a pink flamingo water feature, and a giant monogrammed pink handle to “carry” Barbie’s house to any destination.
Barbie would have told her realtor to keep driving if she pulled up to this less than dreamy original beige than exterior.
Keith and Evan used Barbie’s black and white bathing suit design as inspiration for the striped awnings and pillows.
Created by Don Featherstone in 1956, the plastic pink flamingo lawn ornament became an icon of leisure and extravagance. Designers gave Barbie’s the 90’s treatment, using them as a sculptural water feature.

Barbie’s backyard is equally entertaining with a compete pool party set-up.
