We’re celebrating love this month – that is, love for garage doors. These are some of the most loved (i.e. best-selling) Clopay garage door styles from the past year, categorized by collection.
Canyon Ridge®
Whether it’s windows, siding, decking or garage doors, exterior products that look like real wood but require less maintenance have overtaken the field. Couple that with homeowners’ desire to use a mix of natural organic materials to add warmth and texture throughout the house, and it’s no surprise that Clopay’s Canyon Ridge faux wood garage doors are a leading choice.
Carriage house Design 12 was the most popular Canyon Ridge door style of 2019, followed by Designs 11 and 13, respectively. The common denominator among all three of the doors in this series is the clean, simple panel design with vertical overlays that add visual interest without being overly fussy.
Walnut was the top Canyon Ridge color choice followed by the Medium stain finish, with its warm, golden hue.
The term, “carriage house” may sound old-fashioned to some, however, these garage doors are quite versatile depending on how they are accessorized. The majority of buyers chose to add insulated windows to maximize the energy-efficiency of this high R-value door.
Coachman®
White is the industry’s best-selling garage door color because it goes with almost everything, and nothing exudes charm like a painted white Coachman carriage house door.
The most popular Coachman styles of 2019 closely mirrored the Canyon Ridge line. Once again, Designs 12, 13, and 11 held wide appeal because they fit almost every home style.
As Clopay’s original insulated steel and composite overlay door, the Coachman has traditional details like coped edges and simulated divided lites, so it’s not surprising that most buyers chose to add windows with grilles and decorative hardware to emphasize the old-world character.
Sandtone is also a popular paint color for the Coachman.
Gallery®
With a grooved panel design, many decorative window and hardware options, and a wide selection of paint and wood-look finishes, Clopay’s Gallery door has a timeless, transitional style that dresses up starter homes and dream homes.
White was the leading color choice for Gallery doors ordered in 2019, however, Clopay’s Walnut Ultra-Grain followed closely on its heels and continues to gain popularity as an affordable wood-look option.
As with the other carriage house designs, homeowners preferred Gallery doors with windows.
Modern Steel®
Modern Steel buyers embraced their minimalist side in 2019, choosing painted black flush panel doors without windows. It’s easy to evoke a modern exterior vibe with a black garage door pre-finished using Clopay’s proprietary paint formula that reflects UV rays to keep the steel surface 10 – 20 degrees cooler.
Avante®
Contemporary design lovers looking for opportunities to fill their garage with natural light without compromising privacy were drawn to Clopay’s Avante aluminum and glass garage door—specifically the Black Anodized frame, which has a slightly matte look, paired with tempered frosted glass windows. Clear glass was also a popular choice for owners who wanted to maximize the “full-view” indoor/outdoor experience.
Classic™
Among customers who ordered a Clopay Classic door in the past year, the most popular design and color were the epitome of traditional style – a solid white short raised panel garage without windows. While a good number of homeowners are exploring a broader range of garage door designs and colors, raised panel steel doors are holding steady as a staple design.
Reserve® Wood
Despite the low-maintenance appeal and uncanny realism of engineered wood door look-alikes, nothing offers the beauty and design flexibility of natural wood.
Most of the people who choose wood doors in 2019 wanted custom -- something uniquely theirs, which Clopay offers through our handcrafted Reserve Wood line.
Over the past year, Cedar was the wood species of choice because of its ability to withstand natural elements. It also shows a wide variation of grain patterns and color, ranging from nearly white to pink to dark brown.
Clopay offers nine standard stain colors as part of its factory-finish program. Dark was the most popular stain, followed by Butternut. The other shades are Dark Oak Ebony, Ebony Wash, Natural Light, Natural, Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany.
The doors and windows are sanded, caulked and finished on all six sides under controlled conditions, using PPG ProLuxe™ Cetol® stain, which is considered to be the highest quality and most durable exterior stain finish system on the market, yielding a stunning, furniture-quality result.
Clopay factory-stained wood doors arrive ready to install and are backed by a two-year warranty.
