Clopay Commercial Products Group recently partnered with residential and commercial door dealer Zemco Door Products in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada to install more than 250 doors on a new one million square foot distribution centre in Regina, Saskatchewan. The distribution centre, which is operated by Canadian Logistics Services, serves Loblaw Companies Limited’s (Loblaw) banner stores.
Loblaw is Canada’s largest grocery chain. Food distribution centers shipping to the Company’s grocery stores are required to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year round. Canadian Logistics Services estimates that the Regina facility will maintain a daily traffic volume of 200 trucks loading and unloading to distribute more than three million cases of product per week to Loblaw banner stores in western Canada.
The doors installed are premium insulated 3” thick Clopay Model 3300 Series, a strong, energy-efficient door solution for a high-volume operating environment that requires thermal efficiency and protection from air infiltration.
“Clopay Model 3300 doors are the distribution centre’s front line against costly energy loss by keeping the dock doorways tightly sealed,” says Jim Hoying, Clopay’s commercial business development manager. “This project demonstrates the durability and performance of this door under fluctuating temperature conditions both inside and out. The interior is a mixed use environment featuring climate controlled refrigeration areas and dry goods. Outdoors the temperature can fluctuate 100 degrees between winter and summer months; the minimum temperature on record so far in 2011 is -36.8 degrees C.”
The Model 3300’s heavy-duty 25 gauge steel exterior and expanded polystyrene insulation bonded to both steel skins provides an extremely durable door along with great insulating value. A Santoprene® rubber joint seal prevents cold or heat from passing through the sections.
The flexible bottom weatherseal with an aluminum retainer lessens conductivity of heat and cold, minimizes air and water penetration and accommodates irregular floor conditions. This becomes an important safety feature especially during the winter when freezing temperatures can instantly turn any moisture on the floor into ice, making it dangerous for those on foot.
The doors’ baked-on polyester paint finish, heavy-duty 3” galvanized steel hardware, and high cycle springs provide corrosion-resistance and long door life in this extreme environment.
