Clopay’s contemporary Avante Collection garage door played a prominent role on the December 9, 2011 episode of the ABC television series, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (EMHE).
Clopay partnered with Hickman Overhead Door, a Clopay Master Authorized dealer located in Milford, Delaware, to donate and install a 9’ x 8’ aluminum and glass garage door on a detached design studio specifically built for teenager Wyzhir Johnson-Goslee as part of his family’s home makeover.
Wyzhir is an aspiring designer who lost his hand last Christmas Eve while working on the old house.
EMHE designers selected a door with a clear anodized aluminum frame and clear tempered glass for Wyzhir’s studio. But they didn’t use the Avante in a traditional garage door application. Instead, they incorporated it as a moving wall of windows to seamlessly merge the interior working space with the great outdoors.
At the press of a button, the garage door is automatically raised, allowing people and fresh air to flow during gatherings. Closed, the Avante provides a stunning panoramic exterior view.
Other Avante window options, including frosted and mirrored glass, are also available to control the degree of light transmission and privacy.
“Clopay has partnered with our dealers and the Extreme Home Makeover team to donate and install garage doors for many deserving families over the years,” says Pat Lohse, Clopay’s vice president of residential marketing. “We are thrilled that one of our most unique door models was integrated into this amazing space for such a talented and inspiring young man.”
